Provocative, imaginative, and oddly nostalgic.
The Portrel Edit. Balmain S20 RTW.

Provocative, imaginative, and oddly nostalgic, Balmain ’s spring 2020 ready to wear collection checked an unusual set of boxes.
However that was only normal for designer Olivier Rousteing, who has a penchant for polarising critics and fans alike. This time around, Rousteing draw his inspiration from his own experiences. To be more precise, growing up in the late 1990s and early 2000s as well as from his recent investigation of his roots. His collection made parallel commentaries on race, identity, and ‘90s pop culture. In the meantime he made references to Chanel, Montana, and other industry bigwigs. Sandwiched between feisty monochrome looks were one-legged pants and enveloping relaxed crop tops. In addition, we saw jumpsuits in bright primary colours, and flowing silk gowns that Jeannie would be happy to wear in 2020. Though subtlety didn’t have its usual seat at the table, no one had cause for complaint.
