Dior Cruise 2018.
Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve,
The creative team of the House chose for the Cruise 2018 collection, a remoted location in LA. The Upper las Virgenes Canyon served perfectly to present the Wild Side of LA, away from all the glam of Hollywood and red carpet. An authentic location with all the natural characteristics and heritage of the Californian desert. Staying true to the theme, Dior Sauvage, the house needed wild, open spaces with blue skies that covers rocky landscapes, hot under the desert sun! In addition here is where the Little House on the Prairie, and Gone With the Wind were filmed. Rustic and rural the setting had 2 air balloons, tentes, fires, as an overwhelmming backdrop to the runway.

The collection was Western-themed with desert references. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s inspiration came from wall paintings in the Lascaux cave*, when Monsieur Dior himself was also inspired by, back in the early ’50s. “Dior had a huge relationship with California”, she claimed after the show. The desirgner reproduced the prints and used them over skirts, dresses and ponchos. The collection also includes references to Georgia O’Keeffe and feminist shaman Vicki Noble. Every look had a Gaucho hat by Stephen Jones styled with a bandanna and braids, exactly like O’Keeffe **. The models wore only flats, something quite convinient for them since there was no catwalk and they walked on the ground floor.
When it comes to materials : suede, fur, feathers, fringes, denim, leather jackets, tulle skirts, sheer and plaid.
Furthermore, the color palette : dusky reds and oranges, earth tones along with austere black, white are red looks.
Key trend of the runway : jackets over full skirts with chic hiking boots.
To sum up, Maria Gracia Chiuri had another bet to win since this collection was her Cruise debut for the House of Dior. Staying true to the roots of the brand, inspired by Dior’s past once again she combines femininity with power and indepedence. The clothes are so impactful to speak for themselves.
